alt

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing “state of the art” chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable, and more effective than ever before.

As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Kyle Smerglia has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.

Corrective Exercises

At Smerglia Chiropractic, we teach our patients how to perform special “blueprint” exercises that can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan.

In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Cupping

What does cupping have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their bodies, and as part of that goal, we provide problem area-specific cupping sessions performed by Gretchen Smerglia, BSN. Cupping therapy allows for trapped blood and fluid to be released through a suction process. Cupping is used to treat swelling, muscle tightness and tension, headaches and migraines, fibromyalgia, and more. Additional fees apply for this treatment.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) can be applied to help treat pain or recover muscle strength following an injury, surgery, or spasm. It supports the recovery process by stimulating specific muscles to prevent atrophy and build strength and is often used to treat conditions that cause joint pain, such as golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow.

EMS stimulates muscle contraction by sending mild electrical pulses. Chiropractors attach electrodes to the patient’s skin that simulate natural brain signals and stimulate targeted tissues and nerves. EMS is used as part of a therapy plan for chronic pain conditions, rehabilitation, and as a way to maintain muscle tone for patients with spinal cord injuries.

Massage Therapy

alt

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach that actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient’s unique pain condition or injury.

The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling, and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient’s range of motion, while also aiding in a patient’s recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!

Myofascial Release (Scraping)

Myofascial Release Therapy (MRT) is a highly specialized stretching technique used to treat patients with a variety of soft tissue problems. It helps to relax and release uneven tightness in injured tissues which consequently alleviates pain and other related symptoms. MRT is used to treat conditions including headaches, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, tennis elbow, and golfer’s elbow.

Spinal & Postural Screenings

There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Kyle Smerglia can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Cuyahoga Falls community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs, and places of employment. Contact us today at 330-928-2000 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.

alt

X-Ray

Depending on your specific condition, the doctor may take X-rays as well. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves. After reviewing your health history,  goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, Dr. Kyle Smerglia will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers.

alt

Accident/Legal Evaluation

We also auto accident and workers compensation cases that result in back pain, headaches, or other symptoms which can be addressed with chiropractic care.

For most, seeing a chiropractor after an accident isn’t a priority, but an evaluation of your spine and soft tissue is a critical opportunity to identify severe injuries and help prevent long-term pain. Even if you aren’t suffering from whiplash after a crash, you may have stiffness and pain in other areas of your body. A chiropractic assessment will target those problem areas, and a treatment plan can help you recover as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions about the services offered in our Cuyahoga Falls chiropractic office, but please call if you would like more information.

Absolutely!

Many people go to a chiropractor because they are in pain. In this first phase of care, the main goal is to reduce your symptoms. Sometimes this will require daily visits, or two to three visits per week for a time. Most people are under the assumption that if they don’t feel any pain that there is nothing wrong with them – that they are healthy. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced. For example, consider a cavity in your tooth. Does it hurt when it first develops or only after it has become serious? How about heart disease? Regardless of whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stress or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is also the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains.

No. If you are in acute, severe pain there may be some discomfort associated with the adjustment but it should not be painful.

Absolutely! Technique may vary but is safe for all ages.

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a persons care. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone. During the correction / restorative phase of your care, you will not have to receive adjustments as often as you did during the first phase of care and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at the center or at home to help accelerate your healing. Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

No. Chiropractors utilize a holistic approach to help with musculoskeletal complaints.

No.

Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure that your physical problems do not return, and keep your body in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well in order to sustain the benefits of exercise and proper diet, it is necessary to continue chiropractic care to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system. When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the aches and pains that so many people suffer through, your joints will last longer and you will be able to engage in more of the activities you love.

Most insurance companies do provide chiropractic coverage. However, if your plan does not, we offer great private pay options. Give our clinic a call to find out more!

What to Expect

In some ways, chiropractic care is like building a house – certain things must happen in a particular order for everything to stand strong and function together. For example, if you build the walls before you had a solid foundation, the wall would be weak and may eventually collapse. If you build the roof before the walls were ready, it would cause the same problem.

These concepts apply to your body too, and chiropractic care addresses the source of pain and discomfort. If something is unbalanced in your body’s foundation, that must be addressed first. Chiropractic care follows a set process to support comprehensive wellness.
